I wasn’t going to make announcement posts about new Atelier games anymore, but this was an interesting turn of events that sparked me to write one again.
Last year, Atelier Resleriana (I still can’t get over this name) was announced as a gacha game, which was controversial. Its announcement made a lot of series fans nervous, because:
- The previous Atelier gacha game went end of service quickly
- Most Atelier fans aren’t fond of gacha games to begin with
- Resleriana was announced as a mainline game, when the previous one wasn’t. This implied a more serious effort to make an Atelier gacha
There was quite a bit of doomposting last year after the announcement. The cope was that the next mainline Atelier game would return to a traditional console/PC release, just like the series had going for over 25 years now.
And the new mainline game announced a few weeks ago was exactly that: Atelier Yumia; a new non-gacha, console/PC, non-live service game. Hearing the series return to traditional releases was a relief to me as well. I’m looking forward to playing this game in a few months. I wasn’t going to write anything about Yumia’s announcement.
But then a few days ago, there was a more interesting announcement: a new Resleriana game, but also as a traditional, non-gacha game. This isn’t an offline port of the gacha Resleriana, this new game is completely different but probably within the same universe as the original gacha.
I’m cautiously optimistic after seeing demonstrated footage from Yumia. 2025 might be a good year for my backlog.
