I recently decided to change my domain name to lmbx.me
.
The old domain, jbox.me,
is still active but now acts as a redirector to this site.
Why?
The motivation is fairly simple: I wanted a domain name that is better associated with me. While lmbx isn’t my actual name or anything, it’s my primary username and I think it’s better than a haphazard mix of two words.
I chose the domain name jbox on a whim (over a year ago, wow);
I didn’t really know what name to choose at the time.
The general trend seemed to be that people either buy some variant of
firstnamelastname.TLD
or onlineusername.TLD
.
The domain name jbox
was basically chosen randomly.
The inspiration was the J in my name
and Box as in sandbox/space to mess around with.
I thought it was fitting for my first self hosting adventure.
Ultimately, I chose the domain name lightly and regretted it.
What happens to jbox.me?
I’m unsure of keeping the old domain around for a long time. I don’t have enough reasons to own two domains, so it makes more sense to not pay the registration fee. I won’t be keeping it as a pointer to this domain forever.
jbox.me
holds some sentimental value and it feels bad to let it go.
It was my first domain ever,
allowed me to tinker around with a lot of self hosting projects,
and got me into operating my own website.
Its favicon is also still used here for now.
My old domain served me well,
and I’ll keep its legacy alive here.
