Musoshin Ramen review

A very “homemade” feel

Front of Musoshin Ramen

Finally another ramen review after a long hiatus(?). I haven’t been posting as much for a few reasons:

  1. I have become busier since late 2023
  2. A little writer’s block might be settling in

Still, I haven’t abandoned this blog. Posts will come in, albeit more slowly. Anyways, time for a new ramen review.

This time I went to Musoshin Ramen, slightly south of Dundas West station. This place was listed on the Michelin Guide list, so I figured I should pay a visit.

TLDR: It’s pretty good. Feels very comfy. The worst part is probably the surrounding location. It’s somewhat distant from core downtown Toronto, and the general area around Dundas West station feels shady.

Food

I just want to point out that the menu of Musoshin Ramen allows you to add pork cutlet as a topping, which I found to be amusing. They also have desserts and drinks in their menu.

Musoshin Ramen Red ($18.5)

“Musoshin Ramen Red with extra noodles”

This ramen had beef tenderloin in it, which is something I don’t find often in ramen. Musoshin Ramen has good noodles; they are extremely chewy. Some might say they are close to al dente.

The broth has a slightly salty but overall mild flavour. It tasted somewhat homemade to me, which is a compliment.

The Ramen Red has a spice level from 1 to 10. I initially ordered a 6 after hearing that it is mildly spicy, but I ended up adding level 10 spice. My spiciness tolerance is moderate; if you can handle most Korean instant noodles then level 10 should be ok.

Thoughts

Musoshin Ramen is not excellent, but it’s still decent, and my standards for ramen aren’t low (I think). The food is good, priced appropriately, and I don’t have any complaints. The only problem is the location.
