SSD prices have crashed

Prices might start increasing soon

DDR5 and SSD prices have crashed into the ground within the last few months. I bought mid-tier 32GB DDR5 last November for around $200 CAD, now that kit is basically half its original price. SSDs have seen the same trend, a $100 1TB NVMe I bought in November is now $50. Back in March I bought a 2TB NVMe for $150 thinking it was cheap, now it costs $100.

I took advantage of tumbling NVMe prices and bought a 4TB drive. My previous 2TB drive was starting to fill up faster than I expected, so I’m hoping that double the capacity will be enough for the long run. Trying to move data from the old NVMe to the new one caused… a lot of headache that I’ll post about later.

Aside from my little story, every PC component now has affordable products, except for new video cards. But you can get new, previous gen GPUs for cheap or buy used. It’s overall a pretty good time to build or upgrade a desktop.
